a powerfully romantic Regency-era tale that is breathtaking in scope
and wondrously passionate.
When Sebastian Townshend, son of the eighth Earl of Edgewood, was banished from his family due to the tragic results of a duel, he vowed never to return to England. Now living on the continent, Sebastian has forged a new identity as a deadly mercenary, The Raven. But his former neighbor, Lady Margaret Landor, has different plans for him. Back in England, Sebastian's father has had several accidents and Margaret suspects foul play and deception that reach as far back as the infamous duel. Convinced that only Sebastian can set the situation to rights, Margaret arranges a scandalous bargain with him that includes Sebastian's returning home as her husband. As the newlyweds uncover a deadly scheme, a fierce passion blossoms between them, which neither anticipated -- and neither can resist.

Spotlight customer reviews:
Customer Rating: Summary: The Day After Roswell Comment: The book is an interesting read, if not wholly credible.
There is reason to doubt that everything Col. Corso related was the exact truth.
There are several technological innovations which - he says - were the result of alien technology discovered with the downed ship eventually being given to researchers who were able to use some of the information to develop great advances in design and capability of some products.
His critics say that he has insulted the work of the actual human inventors of those products.
It has also been stated that Col. Corso did not actually serve on the NSC and could not have done some of the things that he said he did while in the Army.
It may be a work of science-fiction masquerading as biography-cum-science but it was still interesting to read.
Customer Rating: Summary: Good Read for understanding what was gleaned in the "early" years Comment: I read this book shortly after it's first release. It is and was at the time considered somewhat dry and non-sensational. Many books offer more juicey tidbits and stories. But this guy was around in the early years and offers a limited but detailed diary like accounting for how he saw the Government approch a highly classified phemon. His account paints a picture of Several High level adjecnties hiding contacts and info. Re:
Though narrow in it's scope he lays out knowdledge of how large tech companies with big contracts soon came into These "artifacts" and learning to reverse engineer them into such pivital items that quickly became the computor chip. All these companies are still around, ones that for a century have enjoyed large millatary contracts, and they guard their secrets better than Fort Knox. Nothing take presidence over the Millitary when it comes to the Governments ability to lock down info. And Anything that has a possibile millitary application gets poured over and exploited for decades before it it's applications are leaked out to the public by way of "New Technology". New for the public but not new to the world. All the cutting edge scientists get their needed monies for research and development from sources that are predominetly controlled by some government and sign away thier life in confidentiality agreements to get to play with the "coolest toys", turn over their results and possible applications first to be considered for in a word War. After the rest of the world hs caught up and it's no longer secret then they release the Tech. "soup de jour" to more profitable exploits, doing so gradually (every 5mos.) to get people to keep having to come back to keep up.
Corso tries to methodically layout the early years from his perspective (his proven/traceable service record) what was becomeing a system of how these Top secret issues were being handled and basically probalby still are. Author Jim Marrs came out with his book ALIEN AGENDA around the same time and I found it a much more interesting overview on the subject. But again I find this a poiniet dossier and worth reading as one who wants to understand the roots of Rock might check out Old Blues, Beatles, and Stones music etc...
Reguarding (comments) The deveations and "enhancements" that he may have made at his book signings embellesshment may be one way to look at it... However another wa to look at it is thus. Many writers with sensitive information to tell will many times not give full disclossure to all they know in their books. Everyone should know that. And many times authors will while speaking on a one to one basis, reveal more info. than they wanted to go on record ever saying... And young people need to hear and have access to the truth because they will have more opputunity to do somthing with that truth. Older folks when presented with somthing controversial even if they believe it tend to just sit on the info. rarely even discussing it with their peirs for feir of making waves or worse ridacule. the younger you are the less you tend to care about what other people think of you and that's when you have the most oppurtunity to persue wherever your intersts take you. Just cuase you write a book a bio or whatever dosen't mean that you still might NOT tell everything you know. Given he like 99% of people that write with authority on the subject of UFO and the like don't have any hard evidence short of copies of memos and the like. Besides anyone that claims to have anything in their possession will sure to be inidated with All Kinds beating a path to their door. And in this case I think he was revealing (in the book) more than enough to feel that he "threw" his hat in" in regaurds to giving info. and credence to the subject.
Customer Rating: Summary: Compelling Reading Comment: This is definitely the most fascinating book on Roswell or any other UFO field that I've read. It is detailed in a way that makes sense. One is tempted to believe that it is either true or deliberate government disinformation.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not too bad of a read,, a little tedious in the way it's presented Comment: I've had this book for a couple months now, and just recently decided to finish it after reading the first two chapters. I have to say, it's a little boring in the way the information is presented. Like in all my other reviews, if it holds my attention up until page 100, i'll finish it. This book does just that. The first 6 chapters are quite amusing in describing Phillip Corso's life and establishing his credibility with the military. Up until this point it's more of just a story that flows quite well. But when I hit chapter 7 (page 99 to be precise) I couldn't pull myself away from it. I probably read 100 pages in a few hours, where the previous 100 pages took a few days. Even if it's not true, it's still fascinating in the ways the author, in his alien descriptions, can absolutely paint a picture in your mind of what's going on. And the fact that it could possibly be true is just mind blowing. This excitement continues for a few chapters until around chapter 13 - 14, and then it just becomes downright monotonous. I don't know if it's the lack of enthusiasm or the subject matter, but yet again i had to force myself to finish this book.. So, some very valuable information from a very credible source. But on the other side, it's written by a lifetime military general,, not a five star author. So, hang in there.
Subjects in this book: Roswell (of course), extensive information and details on the Aliens, Technology, and Ideas gained from Roswell, Cold War Conspiracy stuff, the U2 and corona projects, Project Moon Base, the discovery and developement of the Integrated Circuit, the Laser, Fiber Optics, and the Star Wars program.
Customer Rating: Summary: Oh really? Comment: Lasers, fiber optics, transistors, microchips, and most of the technological advances of the last 50 years were retro-engineered from the crashed Roswell UFO. So says author Philip Corso in this intriguing book. Whether you believe his claims or not, his suggestions stimulate thought. Corso's responsible positions in government and his detailed knowledge of developmental processes make his statements sound plausible. His dramatic and extensive, but undocumented, claims would be much more credible if he didn't end the book by also claiming to be the person who forced JFK into the Cuban Missile Crisis--and if Senator Strom Thurmond, who wrote the Forward to the first edition, hadn't demanded that it be removed from subsequent editions because he had written it for a completely different (non-UFO) book. While the book is quite interesting to read, in the long run it probably detracts as much from the serious study of UFOs as it adds.
Considering the book from an entirely different angle: some of the passages are beautifully written. The opening lines depicting Roswell's locale create the perfect mood for a visit to the world's most famous UFO location.
