#1 New York Times bestselling author Johanna Lindsay presents a powerfully romantic Regency-era tale that is breathtaking in scope and wondrously passionate.
When Sebastian Townshend, son of the eighth Earl of Edgewood, was banished from his family due to the tragic results of a duel, he vowed never to return to England. Now living on the continent, Sebastian has forged a new identity as a deadly mercenary, The Raven. But his former neighbor, Lady Margaret Landor, has different plans for him. Back in England, Sebastian's father has had several accidents and Margaret suspects foul play and deception that reach as far back as the infamous duel. Convinced that only Sebastian can set the situation to rights, Margaret arranges a scandalous bargain with him that includes Sebastian's returning home as her husband. As the newlyweds uncover a deadly scheme, a fierce passion blossoms between them, which neither anticipated -- and neither can resist.

Editorial Reviews:

It’s just a small story really, about among other things: a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. . . .

Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak’s groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can’t resist–books. With the help of her accordion-playing foster father, she learns to read and shares her stolen books with her neighbors during bombing raids as well as with the Jewish man hidden in her basement before he is marched to Dachau.

This is an unforgettable story about the ability of books to feed the soul.

Summary: Best book I read in 2008
Comment: I have read more than 30 books last year and I have to say The Book Thief was an amazing surprise. In fact the book left around my bed for about 6 months. My wife received it from a fried from Brazil during their visit last July but never started to read it. Few days before the end of the year I decided to give it a chance. I have to say I could not stop to read it to the end and, since than it stills in my mind.

This is a very creative story, easily readable and totally enjoyable, no matter the age of the reader. For sure a book to become a movie soon.

Summary: A wonderful story
Comment: I normally wouldn't grab a book from the young adult section (or even the historical fiction section) for myself, but I am SO GLAD I did! This is a wonderful, but sad story told by Death. The setting is in Germany during WWII and it follows a young girl's journey to try to lead a normal life during the holocaust. Not being an avid history buff, it really gave me a better perspective into the history of that time. After I bought the book, I found myself unable to put it down...even into the wee hours of the morning. I finished the book in 2 days and then purchased a copy for each of my sisters. Don't be discouraged by the book's targeted audience or that it is "historical" fiction. I highly recommend this book - but beware: you may need to make the time to read it cover to cover, it is THAT good!

Comment: Amazing stuff, I really loved this book!

The characters are unforgettable, a profoundly moving story for anyone to read!

This was the 1st novel of Markus Zusak that I have ever heard of or read, but it was well worth it.

Liesel is one character that I will never forget from a book!

Hans Hubermann, Max Vandenburg, Rudy Steiner all truly touching characters, brought to life vividly by Zusak.

The writing is amazing, the message about the power of words is absolutely true...

Highly recommended book!!

Summary: Hard to find a book to follow-up with......
Comment: Once I opened this book, I was running with the Book Thief! I wanted the Book Thief to continue her quest for the words of the world.

This book is one of the greatest I have ever read....fear, love, compassion, loyalty, friendship, and life all intertwine in this wonderful story. I laughed, cried, giggled, imagined, and cried some more while reading this book.

Thanks to you Mr. Zusak for such a wonderful tale of life, survival and death of Ms. Liesel.
