#1 New York Times bestselling author Johanna Lindsay presents a powerfully romantic Regency-era tale that is breathtaking in scope and wondrously passionate.
When Sebastian Townshend, son of the eighth Earl of Edgewood, was banished from his family due to the tragic results of a duel, he vowed never to return to England. Now living on the continent, Sebastian has forged a new identity as a deadly mercenary, The Raven. But his former neighbor, Lady Margaret Landor, has different plans for him. Back in England, Sebastian's father has had several accidents and Margaret suspects foul play and deception that reach as far back as the infamous duel. Convinced that only Sebastian can set the situation to rights, Margaret arranges a scandalous bargain with him that includes Sebastian's returning home as her husband. As the newlyweds uncover a deadly scheme, a fierce passion blossoms between them, which neither anticipated -- and neither can resist.

—Jacqui Cheng, Associate Editor, Ars Technica

“We make our living writing this stuff and yet I am humbled by Erica’s command of her subject matter and the way she presents the material: pleasantly informal, then very appropriately detailed technically. This is a going to be the Petzold book for iPhone developers.”

—Daniel Pasco, Lead Developer and CEO, Black Pixel Luminance

The iPhone Developer’s Cookbook: Building Applications with the iPhone SDK should be the first resource for the beginning iPhone programmer, and is the best supplemental material to Apple’s own documentation.”

“Erica’s book is a truly great resource for Cocoa Touch developers. This book goes far beyond the documentation on Apple’s Web site, and she includes methods that give the developer a deeper understanding of the iPhone OS, by letting them glimpse at what’s going on behind the scenes on this incredible mobile platform.”

—John Zorko, Sr. Software Engineer, Mobile Devices

The iPhone and iPod touch aren’t just attracting millions of new users; their breakthrough development platform enables programmers to build tomorrow’s killer applications. If you’re getting started with iPhone programming, this book brings together tested, ready-to-use code for hundreds of the challenges you’re most likely to encounter. Use this fully documented, easy-to-customize code to get productive fast—and focus your time on the specifics of your application, not boilerplate tasks.

Leading iPhone developer Erica Sadun begins by exploring the iPhone delivery platform and SDK, helping you set up your development environment, and showing how iPhone applications are constructed. Next, she offers single-task recipes for the full spectrum of iPhone/iPod touch programming jobs:

  • Utilize views and tables
  • Organize interface elements
  • Alert and respond to users
  • Access the Address Book (people), Core Location (places), and Sensors (things)
  • Connect to the Internet and Web services
  • Display media content
  • Create secure Keychain entries
  • And much more

You’ll even discover how to use Cover Flow to create gorgeous visual selection experiences that put scrolling lists to shame!

This book is organized for fast access: related tasks are grouped together, and you can jump directly to the right solution, even if you don’t know which class or framework to use. All code is based on Apple’s publicly released iPhone SDK, not a beta. No matter what iPhone projects come your way, The iPhone Developer’s Cookbook will be your indispensable companion.

Summary: This should be your SECOND iPhone programming book !
Comment: Erica Sadun is known for her iPhone reengineering since the beginning of (iPhone) time. This book sums up her experiences with iPhone programming, starting from the toolchain times. She shows a lot of tricks you won't see in the standard books. But to really enjoy this book, you should know iPhone programming at least basically. This is NOT a methodical introduction for complete beginners, but a collection of iPhone programming concepts and gems for people who already understand the basics. So, if you buy this book to LEARN iPhone programming, you will certainly be disappointed. But if you buy this book to IMPROVE your iPhone programming skills, you will really like this book a lot.

Summary: Erica Sadun's aptitude makes this a MUST buy!
Comment: Erica Sadun's inherit capability to write beautiful and self-explanatory code is evident in the iPhone Developer's Cookbook. These aren't the same cookie-cutter examples you have come to expect from most sample applications out there. This text contains examples for applications which the real world has come to expect out of iPhone developers. Erica pushes the limits of the developer API and it shows that her expertise on the subject is nothing short of a virtuoso. This makes for excellent reference material to keep by your side while developing iPhone applications!

Summary: Solid Recipes
Comment: The author provides plenty of solid recipes to help the new iPhone developer get their application vision together. The only reason why I hold back the fifth star, is that I wish the book had a bit more for the advanced iPhone developer. More meat about using Core Animation or SQLite would have been nice.

Summary: Must have
Comment: Excellent book with many sample code. I hope the author prepares a newer edition with more recipes.

Summary: Impractical - not the right way to get your feet wet with the iPhone
Comment: One change in the way this book is written would make a world of difference:
Use the classes and views in the way that they are supposed to.
Putting every line of code in the main goes against the very grain of the programming model and makes the reader waste a LOT of time in trying to adapt the examples in the book to anything that could be created in real life.
Object Oriented programming is not new, I have seen many books resolve the issue of displaying classes before.
On top of being unable to draw any use from this book, I feel cheated by the author and I feel like the only reason why she wrote it this way is to be able to send the book to print quickly and cash in on all the fools like me who are trying to learn how to program the iPhone early on.
